The best way we can help you help us is by asking that you bulletize your Top 5 qualities / skills in your initial email to us! Usually, people are most helpful donating a little bit of their time and skill in a manner consistent with the way they make a living out in the world. Here are a few examples:
Lawyer? We'd love some employment law advice!
Accountant? Have a look at our books!
Donation Aggregator? Sometimes we need to buy stuff. It helps to have money for this.
Social Media Maven? Yep, we need some help there.
Event Planner? What is more fun than planning events with someone else's money?
Programmer? There is SO much that we could automate to make this easier.
HR Director? Wow. We could sure use your help evaluating resumes for the internship experiences!
Sales? We MUST inquire with each of the Fortune 1000. Your skills and contacts are SO relevant here.
Advocate? Just like to talk about Diversity? Help us make your current employer BETTER!
Publicist? We really need some help getting the word out. Please and thank you!
Jes & Nick are so happy to potentially work with you. There is much to be done! Thank you again!
Um, so what do I get?
Er, well. It's tough to be the first one to explain the concept of "volunteering" to someone but here we go:
You get to feel really good about yourself for pairing talented interns with their DREAM JOB!
From time to time, we will plan a volunteer party where booze and food will be provided.
You will get a rad, super-limited edition t-shirt every year that you are an active Volunteer (no, we don't sell these, they can only be earned.)
You get to network with people that are thought to be "pretty darned important" by some other people.
You get an edge when you, or someone close to you applies for an internship experience with Diverse.org if you have volunteered for at least one calendar year.
Also, you can put our logo on your LinkedIn profile so everyone can see how enlightened you are. (snazzy!)
Is being a volunteer as good as being a donor?
Heck yes. Everyone has their own unique gifts to give.
We do not require individual volunteers to make a financial contribution to our program. We don't turn away good-hearted-peeps because they chose not to make a financial contribution. In our best dream, someone would want to volunteer, give money, donate internships and participate in an internship experience... but that full lifecycle could take a decade or two to complete for any single individual.
We can't wait to see the first one come through! :)
